Leann Cintron, 33, an off-duty New York City Department of Correction officer, was arrested at about 7 p.m. Sat., June 30, and charged with grand larceny for stealing a global-positioning system navigation device out of a car parked in front of 149 Avenue A between Ninth and 10th Sts., police said. The defendant is also charged with stealing an iPod and a laptop computer from the car.
Suckered
Two teenagers, a boy and a girl from Staten Island, told police they went shopping for fake IDs on Canal St. at noon on Mon., June 25, and asked a man in the crowd if he could supply them. “Yeah, follow me,” he said and led the pair up Broadway, ducked into a lobby just north of Grand St., pulled a knife, and demanded their money and cell phones, police said. The thief, described only as a black male, took $220 and two cell phones and fled. Possessing fake ID is a felony offense, but since the two victims had none, they were not charged.
Vladeck drug raid
Police from Manhattan South Narcotics raided two locations in the Vladeck Houses on the Lower East Side on Tuesday evening June 26 and arrested a ring of 15 people, three of them women, and charged them with sale and possession of drugs. The charges involve cocaine, except for one marijuana charge, according to the office of Robert Morgenthau, the Manhattan district attorney.
The arrests were the culmination of police undercover investigations that began in January of drug sales that took place inside or within a block of the Vladeck Houses, which are located between Gouverneur and Jackson Sts. and Madison, Water and Cherry Sts. The defendants, who range in ages from 16 to 55, are from the Vladeck complex, except for two.
The investigation is continuing and other arrests are expected.
Clifford Henry, 55, a Vladeck resident of 40 Gouverneur St.; and Angel Rodriguez, 43, a resident of 138 Stanton St., were arrested in Henry’s apartment with cocaine, scales, plastic baggies and pipes.
Jesus Rodriguez, 22, of 221 W. 28th St.; Albert Torres, 18, a Vladeck resident at 44 Jackson St.; and Jorell Negron, 19, of 61 Jackson St. in the Vladeck complex, were charged with trafficking in cocaine in an apartment at 280 Henry St.
Gloria Sullivan, 52, of 28 Jackson St.; Jeffrey McBride, 35, of 44 Jackson St.; James Vernon, 49, of 28 Jackson St.; and Jeffrey Erickson, 27, of 35 Jackson St., all in the Vladeck complex, were charged in a series of 10 cocaine transactions that took place between Feb. 16 and June 19.
Claudine Bostic, 41, of 40 Gouverneur St.; Dolly Wroten, 51, of 675 Water St.; and Denzel Singletin, 16, of 55 Jackson St., all in the Vladeck Houses, were charged with taking part in three cocaine transactions in February.
Nicholas Olivio, 18, of 50 Columbia St, in the Baruch Houses complex; and Willis Febo, 17, of 334 Madison St., in the Vladeck Houses, were charged with taking part in six cocaine sales in the Vladeck complex between Jan. 17 and March 28.
Christopher Brown, 41, of 110 Columbia St. in the Baruch Houses was arrested on June 26 inside 40 Gouverneur St. in possession of cocaine.
Bottle assault
Police arrested Wanda McCartney, 30, shortly after 5:25 a.m. Sat., June 23, for throwing a bottle that hit a man who was walking on the northwest corner of Varick and Charlton Sts. The victim sustained a bruise on his chest and the suspect was charged with assault.
Robbed
A gunman held up a pedestrian walking on Prince St. near Broadway around 1:30 a.m. Mon., June 25, and demanded his wallet, police said. The victim, 41, of Manhattan asked for his driver’s license back but the robber handed him his bank card instead and demanded to know the PIN number. When the victim refused, the robber took his cell phone, fled on foot to Mercer St. and ran north. The victim followed, saw the thief drive off in a car parked in front of 183 Mercer St., and hailed a passing cab to follow, but he soon lost sight of the car, police said. The thief was described as a black man about 5 feet 8 inches and 165 pounds.
Plum brandy?
Sixth Precinct police responded to a report that an unknown white male patron hit another white male patron with a liquor bottle at about 2:15 a.m. Sat., June 30, at Plum, the club at 248 W. 14th St
Bar larcenies
A thief made off with a laptop and other computer equipment from Senor Swanky’s, 142 Bleecker St., at 10:30 p.m. Tues., June 26. Unattended property at Johnny’s Bar, 90 Greenwich Ave., was reported stolen at 10:45 p.m. Wed., June 27. A thief made off with a bag with credit cards and a cell phone left unattended at Café Condessa, 183 W. 10th St., at about 9 p.m. Sat., June 30.
Assaults up
Crime in the Sixth Precinct, except for assaults, was down for the week of June 18 through June 24 compared to the same time last year. There were 10 felony assaults for the week this year and none for the same week last year. Most of the assaults were attributed to clubs and bars, according to James Alberici, community affairs officer for the precinct, which covers Houston to 14th Sts. west of Broadway.
For the 28 days ending June 24 this year, there were 20 assault reports compared to 11 for the same period last year, and from Jan. 1 to June 24 this year, there were 65 assaults compared to 40 for the same period last year,
