Jill Sigman performed in “Our Lady of Detritus,” an environmental-activist dance, at Solar One/Stuyvesant Cove Park last month. Dressed in neon pink and orange, she pulled around a cart piled with Cheetos, which didn’t need any added coloring to achieve their lurid hue. Above, Sigman offered a little a girl a musical object to listen to, while allowing her mother, who is deaf, to feel its mechanism ticking. The device is made with recycled soda-bottle bottoms and uses rechargeable batteries. Nearby, contorted into a difficult yoga pose with her legs behind her head while rolling around on a cart, Mariana Ferreira portrayed the Pacific Garbage Patch. “This is how you become when you go there,” she grunted painfully. “It’s like plastic — it never biodegrades.”
