"Sharknado," the Syfy original movie that induced a Twitter craze last week is back for Round 2, and this time the great whites will be wreaking havoc in New York City.
Syfy announced Wednesday that the network plans to deliver a sequel in 2014.
The Los Angeles-set "Sharknado," which debuted July 11, will re-air at 7 p.m. Thursday, giving viewers a second chance to catch the wet, bloody disaster flick starring Tara Reid and Ian Ziering.
Though narrative details for the NYC-based sequel are limited to setting, "Sharknado 2" promises to feed fans’ cravings for more sea creature-induced gore.
"The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel," Thomas Vitale, Syfy’s executive vice president of programming and original movies, said in his announcement. "We’ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year."
Even the title is yet to be determined. Fans can help select the film’s subtitle in a special Syfy contest by tweeting their ideas to @SyfyMovies using #Sharknado.
