“I am proud to have led the fight to strengthen our rent laws and win important protections for tenants for the first time since 1993,” said Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. “That’s why it is all the more disappointing that the New York City Rent Guidelines Board once again ignored the pleas of hard working middle class tenants and chose to significantly increase rents. Tenants are already struggling in a difficult economy, and passing this additional financial burden onto tenants is unfair and will likely result in many families being priced out of their neighborhoods.”
