The Ninth Precinct has taken shape again at its former location on E. Fifth St. The building was totally dismantled and renovated, but the exterior facade materials were kept and reused in the reconstructed building. During the renovation, the East Village police precinct has shared quarters with the Housing Bureau police on Avenue C. The Ninth’s facade was featured in the long-running TV police show “N.Y.P.D. Blue.” Deputy Inspector James McCarthy, the precinct’s commanding officer, said he’s been telling people the Ninth will return to its old location by Jan. 1, but that that’s only his hope at this point.
