They’ve got to get themselves back to the gardens

Billed as New York’s longest parade, the 15th Annual Earth Celebrations’ Rites of Spring Procession To Save Our Gardens weaved its way through the East Village and Lower East for eight hours last Saturday, visiting 30 community gardens on its route. The procession features the mythical tale of the kidnapping and saving of Gaia and a giant butterfly flitting from a six-story building into a garden. The green-centric event focuses attention on the need to preserve the urban oases as vital community and cultural spaces.
