Much like her human namesake, Britney Spareribs (above in orange, the new pink) got off to a fast start but then got distracted and was overtaken by Kevin Bacon (red, no relation to the actor) in a 140-foot pig race to celebrate the Year of the Pig, 4705, in Chinatown Sunday. Although there were plenty of jokes about the racers making a delicious conclusion to the Lunar New Year parade, all of the oinkers survived.
A group of dachshunds, looked a bit confused before their race, sponsored by the Daily News, perhaps because it had been a week since it was their year, 4704, the Year of the Dog.

Continuing the pioneering tradition of the Chinese Community Young Lions. Thirty-five years ago, the troupe was the first to allow girls and women to do the lion dance in Chinatown. A few hundred thousand people came to the neighborhood this year for the parade.
