At the Nov. 19 protest against plans by the Cooper Square Hotel, at E. Fifth St. and Cooper Square, for a street-level garden space serving alcohol, David Mulkins brandished a New York Post mockup expressing his views of a likely scenario once the place opens. Mulkins lives on the block. “There are 19 bars within 500 feet of the hotel. It’s too much,” he said. “With high-rise buildings like this hotel, they are destroying the character of this historic, low-rise area.”
