What does it cost to be upper class in NYC, and the rest of the United States?

If you want to be considered rich or improve your standard of living, one option is to move to a place with a lower cost of living. How much do you have to make to be in the upper income bracket in New York City or communities in the rest of the United States?

A recent Planet Money report on NPR looked at what it takes to be above the top 75 percent of earners in a given area. The U.S. median household income may be $64,000, but, according to the Census Bureau, it takes a household income of $107,000 to be in the top 25 percent of earners.

How does New York City hold up against other upper income communities? Check out the results which came from the Census Bureau’s 2013 American Community Survey study.
