An estimated 1,200 people marched from Battery Park Saturday to illustrate where the coastline may end up if nothing is done to reverse global warming trends. Some scientists predict a 10 to 20 foot rise in ocean levels from the melting of polar ice caps, which would submerge much of Lower Manhattan. Though their message was serious, the “Sea of People” had fun with the underwater dress code, sporting scuba gear with a canoe in tow. Demonstrators are calling on Congress to cut carbon emissions 80 percent by 2050.
