A 21-year-old woman was raped and robbed on an East Harlem street during the early hours Monday morning, police said.
The victim was walking in the vicinity of East 111st Street and 2nd Avenue at around 1:40 a.m. when a man started a conversation with her that prompted her to run away.
The suspect, described as being between 20-to-30 years of age, allegedly chased after the victim and then grabbed her. The man proceeded to rape her, according to police.
The alleged rapist then took the woman’s bag from her shoulder and cellphone from her hand and fled eastbound on 111th Street. The woman was taken to an area hospital where she was treated.
The suspect is described as having a light complexion and was wearing a black t-shirt with a teddy bear design at the time of the incident. He was also carrying a black backpack and gray bag.
