Brooklyn Bridge for Young Engineers Dr. Phil will play John Augustus Roebling as he takes participants on a 45-minute tour designed especially for kids ages 8-12. Learn how the Roebling family built one of the great marvels of the 19th century, the Brooklyn Bridge. Sat., July 22 at 10am and Sun., Aug. 13 at 10:30am. Meet inside Blimpies Restaurant, 38 Park Row, bet Spring & Beekman Sts., across from City Hall Park. $10.

Hudson River Park

River Flicks Films will be shown weekly for kids on Fridays around 8:30pm at Pier 46, West Side Highway near Christopher St., thru Aug. 25. This year’s theme is “Big Adventures” featuring family-oriented movies that are based on adventures. Fri., July 21: Chicken Run (PG). Fri., July 28: Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone (PG). Free.

Films for Kids "Onenhakenra: White Seed," Mohawks of the Akwesasne Reservation talk about the role of corn in their culture and show the making of traditional corn soup and corn husk dolls. "How Wesakechak Got His Name," "Wolf Tale: Legend of the Caribou" and "Stories from the Seventh Fire" series. Segments from an animation series include a traditional Anishnabe tale in which Wesakechak, the Trickster, learns that a name of importance must be earned, and a story of how Mother Wolf teaches that creatures of small size can be powerful. Stack ’em High Using stacking blocks, kids ages 3 to 8 will make shapes like the Empire State Building and the Woolworth Building using kid-sized images. Upon construction, get your picture taken with your building. Sat., Aug. 5 from 10:30-11:30am.

Free Fridays This month, Fri., July 21 from 5-9pm, explore the waterfront, past and present. From 5-9pm, visit the exhibitions. From 5-8pm, take part in a family program, "Skyscrapers, Streetscapes and New York Landmarks" and discover New York’s landmarks through the art of watercolor. At 7 & 8pm, take a guided walking tour through the Seaport’s landmark historic district.

Seaport Sunday Smarts Come down to Pier 16 and drop by the Living Harbor Wet Lab aboard the tall ship Peking. Learn about the critters of the East River. Look through the lens of a microscope and let the creatures be your muse as you create aquatic arts and crafts. This week’s theme is The Ocean Floor. Sun., July 23 from 1-4pm. Summer Camp at South Street Seaport For two weeks in mid-to-late August, campers will explore the history of New York through exciting workshops taught by artists and museum educators. Each week-long session takes advantage of the Museum’s unique resources to investigate topics in marine and environmental science, archaeology and history through a curriculum that involves hands-on learning, creative arts projects and opportunities to explore the city’s waterways aboard the 1885 schooner Pioneer.
