Brooklyn detectives are investigating a double shooting near a basketball court on Friday afternoon that left two people injured.
Police said the gun violence erupted near the corner of Prospect Place and Schenectady Avenue, near St. John’s Park, in Crown Heights at about 5:35 p.m. on May 16.
Officers from the 77th Precinct responded to the location after receiving a call about the shooting. They found a 26-year-old man shot in the right leg and a 33-year-old man shot in the right foot.

One man said he was standing at the intersection when he heard the gunshots ring out: “I had to hit the deck and get low. That was a lot of shots.”
Based on a preliminary investigation, police sources said a male suspect had been observed fleeing on foot eastbound along Prospect Place.
EMS rushed the victims to Kings County Hospital; they were listed in stable condition.
Through May 11, the 77th Precinct reported two shootings year-to-date, half the total reported at the same point in 2024.
The motive for Friday’s shooting remains unknown and under investigation. No arrests have been made thus far in the ongoing investigation, police said.
