The famed Waldorf Astoria in New York City has been around in one capacity or another since 1893 when it first opened as a 13-story hotel on Fifth Avenue.
The iconic hotel, which has called Park Avenue its home since 1931, is slated to close on March 1 for renovations that could take up to three years. The building’s owner, China-based Anbang Insurance Group, announced plans to convert 1,000 of the hotel’s rooms into luxury apartments last July.
