The New York Yankees extended their MLB postseason experience following last night’s 4-3 win over the Boston Red Sox in Game 2 of their American League Wild Card series. With three elimination games on the MLB schedule today, the New York-Boston contest gets pushed back to an 8:30 pm ET first pitch. The game will be carried on ESPN.
Game 3 Starters – Cam Schlittler vs. Connelly Early
Yankees’ starter Cam Schlittler started the season with the Somerset Patriots in Bridgewater, New Jersey at the Double A level. A few short months later, he finds himself pitching in the biggest game of the season for the big league ballclub. Schlittler will be trying to break the hearts of friends in the New England area by pitching the Yankees to victory in Game 3. “I would say growing up in Boston, I take pride in being from Boston,” Schlittler said ahead of his monumental start. “When it came to my career and where I want to be, this is where I want to be.”
The Yankees right-hander finished the 2025 regular season with a 4-3 record, a 2.96 earned-run-average (ERA) and 84 strikeouts in 14 starts. In his last appearance, Schlittler allowed two hits and shut out the Baltimore Orioles over seven innings in a Yankees win on Sept 27. The 24-year-old starter has not yet faced the Red Sox lineup.

Boston’s starter, Connelly Early, will be the first MLB pitcher to start a winner-take-all contest in the postseason within a month of making his major league debut. The 23-year-old lefty brings 19 innings of big league experience from just four MLB starts. Early recorded a 1-2 record and a 2.33 ERA, while striking out 29 batters in 2025. Boston’s rookie replaces starter Lucas Giolito, who is expected to miss the entire 2025 postseason due to an elbow injury.

Yankees Home Run Odds in Game 3
Anthony Volpe and Ben Rice have provided a jolt to the Bronx crowd with a home run in Game 1 and Game 2, respectively. Rice is looking to smack a home run in consecutive days for just the second time in his career. His first two round-trippers in 2025 occurred on consecutive days on Mar. 30 against the Milwaukee Brewers and April 1 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
New York is waiting for the power to arrive from Aaron Judge this postseason, however, the Yankees star leads the team with a .500 batting average. He has four hits in eight at-bats , including an RBI single in the fifth inning of Game 2. The 33-year-old slugger has swatted 16 home runs in the playoffs during his Yankees career. Game 3 Prediction – Yankees 6, Red Sox 5
It’s been a tight series over the first two games with no reason to believe that will not be the case in the final game of this Wild Card series despite Boston’s starter making just his fifth career start in the majors. The Yankees snap the Red Sox postseason win streak in this mega-rivalry with a one-run victory in a primetime classic.
