New York Jets quarterback Jordan Travis, who was taken in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Florida State, alerted the team on Wednesday that he intends to retire as he continues to deal with the difficulties stemming from a gruesome leg injury suffered in his final college game against North Alabama two years ago.
“On Nov. 18, 2023, my life and career took an unexpected turn,” Travis wrote. “I gave everything I had to the rehab process, but despite my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with my doctors and medical team, I have been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.”

Travis finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting in 2023 despite the injury, where he passed for 2,756 yards and 20 touchdowns compared to just two interceptions while leading Florida State to an 11-0 record.
Upon being drafted by the Jets at No. 171 overall, he rehabbed during rookie minicamp last spring and was placed on the non-football injury list (NFI) in July. He was placed on the reserve/non-football list the following month.
“Jordan has informed us of his intent to retire due to the injury he sustained while at Florida State,” Jets GM Darren Mougey said. “It is unfortunate that he was unable to get back on the field after working so hard. We support his decision and wish him only the best.”
Travis began his collegiate career at Louisville in 2018 before transferring to Florida State the following year. Across 46 games with the Seminoles, Travis holds the school record with 99 total touchdowns and 10,665 total yards. His 28 wins rank second in program history.
He passed for 8,644 yards and 65 touchdowns, ending his career on a 17-game win streak.
