The Mets are adding yet another former Yankee, as they have signed right-handed reliever Luke Weaver to add to their ever-changing bullpen picture.

Per MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo, it is a two-year deal worth $22 million.

Suddenly, the backend of the bullpen in Queens in 2026 is going to mirror the backend of the bullpen in the Bronx this past season. Weaver spent time as both the set-up man and closer for the Yankees, alternating with Devin Williams while he struggled to maintain the closer’s role.

The Mets signed Williams to a three-year, $51 million deal last month, where he will serve as the closer after Edwin Diaz fled to the Los Angeles Dodgers on a three-year, $69 million deal during last week’s Winter Meetings.

Weaver, 32, had bounced around mostly as a starter with the St. Louis Cardinals, Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals, Cincinnati Reds, and Seattle Mariners before joining the Yankees in 2023. Over the last two seasons, he developed into a dependable late-inning bullpen arm, with the 2024 campaign being his best thanks to a 2.89 ERA and 103 strikeouts across 84 innings pitched.

He served as the Yankees’ closer during their run to the American League pennant before losing to the Dodgers in five games in the World Series.

This past season, though, provided significant struggles after suffering a hamstring strain in June. While dealing with pitch-tipping issues that especially cropped up during the postseason, Weaver’s ERA swelled to 3.62.

The Mets’ new-look bullpen lacks many dependable pieces to work with. Outside of Williams and, now, Weaver, southpaws Brooks Raley and AJ Minter are the only other mainstays.
