Sports are unpredictable, but at least the Yankees can thank their lucky stars for the Minnesota Twins.
The slumping Bronx Bombers (63-56), who had lost seven of their last nine games and each of their previous three series, came away with a rare win on Monday night at Yankee Stadium with a 6-2 triumph over a Twins team that they continue to own.
Since 2002, New York is 124-44 against Minnesota, which includes postseason meetings.
Monday night’s latest victory was headlined by Will Warren’s gem, in which he became the first Yankees pitcher to throw into the seventh inning in a month. The righty, who improved to 7-5 on the season, went 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts and zero walks. The only damage came from solo home runs from Byron Buxton and Trevor Larnach.
Yankees bats doubled up on Minnesota in the home run department, hitting four solo shots. Cody Bellinger, Giancarlo Stanton, and Ben Rice all took Twins starter Zebby Matthews deep, the latter two going back-to-back in the third inning.
Trent Grisham and Aaron Judge accounted for RBI singles in the seventh before Jazz Chisholm Jr. put an exclamation point on the night with New York’s fourth home run of the game in the eighth inning.
