Northwell Health has expanded its footprint with the transformation of Lenox Health Greenwich Village into Northwell Greenwich Village Hospital (NGVH).
Following the closure of St. Vincent’s Hospital in 2010, NGVH was founded in 2014 under the name Lenox Hill HealthPlex as Manhattan’s first satellite emergency department. Over time, the institution expanded to include comprehensive imaging services, an ambulatory surgery suite and multispecialty physician practices.
This facility is currently the only hospital serving the lower West Side of Manhattan.
“At Northwell, our mission is to provide communities with the care they deserve and we’re proud to restore essential services to an area that has gone without them for far too long,” said Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health. “By building a hospital that’s rooted in clinical excellence, we’re not just filling a gap — we’re enhancing the future of health care in the West Village.”

“The opening of Northwell Greenwich Village Hospital is a milestone for the community,” said Tracy Feiertag, MS, DHA, vice president of NGVH. “Our commitment has always been to deliver patient-centered care that is both accessible and of the highest quality. We’ve listened to what our neighbors need and we’re delivering that advanced care right here in the West Village.”
The hospital currently provides a 24/7 emergency department, imaging, ambulatory surgery, orthopedic medicine and gastroenterology services. The transformation — a $32 million investment — adds 16,000 square feet of hospital space, aiming to meet the evolving health care needs of the West Village community. The upgrades include an eight-bed medical/surgical inpatient unit with telemetry capability and a cardiac catheterization suite (cath lab) with electrophysiology services. Both the in-patient suite and the cath lab are expected to open to the public this summer.
With the rise of heart disease cases in New York, NGVH is working to enhance its cardiac care offerings to meet these needs by offering a comprehensive range of diagnostic and interventional procedures, including coronary angioplasty, stent placement, cardiac catheterization, catheter ablation and pacemaker/defibrillator implantation. These services are vital for the community’s LGBTQ+ population, which studies say faces higher rates of cardiovascular disease and often encounters barriers to accessing care.

“We’re bringing world-class heart services to the heart of the West Village,” said Varinder P. Singh, MD, chair of cardiology at Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital, SVP of cardiology for Northwell’s Western Region, and SVP and executive director of global and international health at Northwell Health. “This neighborhood has always been a hub for culture and diversity; now, it’s a hub for specialized cardiac care, too. With advanced offerings like our new cath lab and electrophysiology services, we have the expertise and resources to both prevent problems and solve them swiftly — meeting the needs of this vibrant community.”
