Cops are hunting for a smiling sicko on Staten Island who shot a woman with a pellet gun as she held a newborn baby.
According to police sources, the devious assault unfolded at around 7:07 p.m. on May 2 as the 42-year-old woman was walking along Jerome Road and Benton Avenue in Dongan Hills while cradling a 2-month-old child.
Law enforcement sources said the suspect, a passenger riding in a silver sedan traveling through the area, rolled down his window, brandished a pellet gun, and fired at the pedestrian, striking the woman in the back.

Following the assault, the suspect fled inside the vehicle and was last seen traveling westbound on Evergreen Avenue.
The incident was reported to the 122nd Precinct. Police say the victim refused medical attention. The child was uninjured.
Police described the assailant as a man wearing an orange jacket while holding a grey pellet gun. In surveillance video released by authorities, he also appears to be wearing a sick smirk as he opened fire.
Police are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect to come forward.
