The New York Red Bulls will head to Philadelphia to face the Union in the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup, the competition’s draw deciphered on Thursday morning.
The match will take place on either July 8 or 9.
New York punched its ticket to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2022, when it made the semifinals, by staging a pair of comebacks on Wednesday night at Sports Illustrated Stadium to defeat FC Dallas on penalties, 4-3, following a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes.

Mohammed Sofo canceled out Bernard Kamungo’s first-half opener before Dallas’ Luciano Acosta put the visitors ahead 2-1 in the 78th minute. In the third minute of stoppage time, Emil Forsberg’s free kick deflected off the Dallas wall and into the back of the net to force extra time.
“I’m super excited that we were able to come out with the win,” midfielder Daniel Edelman, who wore the captain’s armband and converted a penalty on Wednesday night, said. “Emil doing what he does, and then the whole group staying together. It shows a lot about our character that we were able to come back down 2-1 and find the equalizer.”
Acosta missed Dallas’ opening penalty when his Panenka floated off the crossbar. Reserve goalkeeper AJ Marcucci then sealed the win on the final penalty of the night, diving to his left to deny Pedrinho.
“The resilience from the guys out there was unbelievable,” Marcucci said. “Being in a situation like that—120 minutes—it’s tough. But for me, I always feel confident, whether it’s in practice or in a game. When we go to penalties, I never think it’s on me if the ball goes in. I always believe it’s up to the shooter. So, I just stay confident in myself, and so far, it’s paid off.”
As two-time finalists in 2003 and 2017, the Red Bulls have never won the US Open Cup, which is the country’s oldest soccer competition dating back to 1913.
