NYC will host a ticker tape parade to honor post-9/11 combat veterans and their families next summer, ahead of the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.
Mayor Eric Adams announced on Thursday that the parade — called the “Homecoming of Heroes: A Ticker Tape Parade Honoring Our Post-9/11 Combat Veterans and Their Families” — will take place on July 6, 2026, through Lower Manhattan’s famed Canyon of Heroes.
The event will recognize veterans who served in Afghanistan and Iraq following the atrocities of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in NYC, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., as well as the hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed in Shanksville, PA.
“The ‘Homecoming of Heroes’ parade is not merely a celebration — it is a historic moment in which a major city unites to solemnly honor the extraordinary service, sacrifice, and resilience of our post-9/11 combat veterans in Iraq and Afghanistan,” Adams said.
More than 2.9 million servicemembers served during this time of conflict, which is known as the Global War on Terror, with 1.9 million deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan across more than 3 million tours of duty lasting over 30 days.

“This is more than a parade — it’s a moment of national reflection and a promise kept,” NYC Department of Veterans Services Commissioner James Hendon said. “For the post-9/11 generation of combat veterans and their families, this march down Broadway is a symbol of belonging, of closure, and of collective pride. We served through two decades of war. Now, together, we write the next chapter — one of unity, recognition, and possibility.”
More than 7,000 U.S. service members died in conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan after the 2001 terror attacks on America.
Adams said additional details and information about the parade will be announced at a later date.
