The NYC Blizzard of 2026 did everything forecasters had said it would this weekend, dumping huge amounts of snow across the five boroughs and bringing the city to a near standstill.
Between 15 and 24 inches of snow was reported at multiple National Weather Service reporting sites across the five boroughs as of 1 p.m. Feb. 23.
Grasmere on Staten Island had the highest snow total in the five boroughs as of midday Monday, with 24.1 inches on the ground (that’s a little more than two feet) in a total reported to the NWS at 10:30 a.m.
Brooklyn has also been hard, with Sheepshead Bay reporting 22.5 inches and Williamsburg tallying 21.1 inches.
The flakes began falling midday Sunday and grew in intensity after nightfall. The winds picked up; Midtown Manhattan reported a peak wind gust of 47 mph just after 3 a.m. on Feb. 23. The blizzard reduced visibility to a 1/4 mile or less in many spots.
Meanwhile, the citywide travel ban Mayor Zohran Mamdani imposed Sunday was lifted at noon Monday, but drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution on the roads. Public schools were closed Monday, as students enjoyed a traditional snow day; the mayor said in-person classes would resume Tuesday.

More than 5,000 Sanitation Department plows and salt spreaders are clearing the streets across the five boroughs. As of 2:40 p.m. Monday, the PlowNYC tracker indicated a majority of streets citywide had been plowed at least once over the previous hour.
New Yorkers are advised not to travel at this time unless absolutely necessary.
