East Harlem will play host this weekend to the 40th annual 116th Street Festival — a yearly celebration of Puerto Rican and Hispanic culture with live music, food, and art.
For those wishing to partake in the festivities who can’t make it to the main stages this Saturday, PIX11 will be broadcasting live from the 122nd Street Stage from 2 – 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon in association with 21 Events. The festival runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and, this year, is anticipating 500,000 attendees packing the streets.
“We’re excited to deliver the energy of the 116th Street Festival to our audience like never before,” said Michael Schwartz, Director of Sales at PIX11, in a news release. “This live broadcast is a perfect reflection of PIX11’s commitment to celebrating the rich cultural fabric of our city.”
Guests can expect 20 city blocks of festival activities and performances, with a music lineup featuring Judy Torres, Gucci (2 Without Hats), DJ Prostyle, DJ Lucho, DJ Victor Vargas, Angel DeLeon, and more across the festival’s three stages.
PIX11’s broadcast, which will be hosted by Vanessa Freeman and Nelson Figueroa, will feature performances from Frankie Negron, Tito Puente Jr., and Luis Damon. Saturday will mark the first time PIX11 is broadcasting the event live for viewers across the tri-state area.
“June 7 will be a great day when PIX11 presents the live performances of top Puerto Rican talents, a special segment on the arrivals of Puerto Ricans to El Barrio, and the excitement of the largest Puerto Rican festival in the world,” said Ralph Paniagua, Managing Director of 21 Events.
