Entertainment 'Broad City' NYC: Locations, places and coolest New York moments By Georgia Kral Updated February 17, 2016 12:22 PM Print Share fbShare Tweet Email We like to think of "Broad City," the hit Comedy Central series starring Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, as New York City's hometown show. It's like today's version of "Seinfeld." "Broad City" films all over the Big Apple. It's a love letter to this great city. Take a tour of Broad City's set -- NYC! -- with us, in anticipation of season 3, which begins on Wednesday, Feb. 17. Here's why we think "Broad City" is a true New York show. They ride bikes Photo Credit: Comedy Central Not all New Yorkers love CitiBike (or bike lanes), but Ilana and Abbi are hip to alternate modes of transportation, just like many NYC millennials. They are always on the subway Photo Credit: Comedy Central / Linda Kallerus True New Yorkers! Abbi and Ilana are seen getting on the subway in many episodes, most famously in the "Subway Encounters" skit in the Season 2 opening episode "In Heat." Watch it at cc.com. They actually love Bed, Bath & Beyond Photo Credit: Comedy Central In the season 2 premiere, Abbi is joked for having special handshakes with all the employees at the Sixth Avenue location because she shops there so much. Admit it, you love the homewares, soft pillows, SodaStreams and organizational items sold there, too. Whole Foods is a magical playland for A&I, too Photo Credit: Comedy Central In the season 2 episode "Wisdom Teeth," Abbi accidentally takes more medication than she should after getting her wisdom teeth removed...and ends up at Whole Foods in Gowanus, frolicking in the bulk section with a larger-than-life version of a stuffed animal. We've all been there?! They don't mind a little adventure or illegal activity Photo Credit: Comedy Central Ilana and her mom head to Chinatown in episode 4 from season 2, "Knockoffs," to look for copy-cat handbags and are taken through a manhole on Doyers Street to an underground handbag hideout. This is a typical NYC urban legend! They love the dive bars and diners Photo Credit: Comedy Central The season 3 premiere "2 Chainz" features Ilana and Abbi at the High Line and outside of old-school Meatpacking staple Hector's Cafe. They venture to far off places to retrieve undelivered packages Photo Credit: Comedy Central In season 1, episode 3, Abbi goes on a quest to pick up Jeremy's package after she missed the delivery. (No doorman, nearly every New Yorker's reality!) She has to take a ferry to "North Brother Island," which is in fact a real place off of the Bronx and near Rikers Island. But NBI is uninhabited, there's nothing there but a bird sanctuary. Did the "Broad City" crew actually shoot there? Nope. We're told the scenes were shot at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. They chill on St. Mark's Place Photo Credit: Comedy Central In the season 2 finale, "St. Mark's," Ilana and Abbi stroll St. Mark's Place between 2nd and 3rd avenues and take in the very New York scene. Though St. Mark's is said to be changing fast, there are still wig and T-shirt shops, gutter punks and BYOB restaurants like Kenka (pictured), which is best known as the restaurant that serves bull's penis and turkey testicles. They go places where they don't necessarily belong Photo Credit: Comedy Central In "Citizen Ship," (season 2, episode 7), the gang takes a boat ride in New York Harbor that they don't fit in on. Like all of us that end up in strange places in NYC, they make the most of it, drinking, becoming better friends and reveling in the differences between those who belong on the ship and those who don't. They get excited about fine dining Photo Credit: Comedy Central Season 1 finale "Last Supper" was shot in the now-closed midtown restaurant Firebird. Abbi and Ilana are jazzed to be eating out on Abbi's dad's dime for her birthday, and they dress up for the occasion. (Though their idea of fancy dress is not exactly what the other patrons consider appropriate.) They drink too much and party hop Photo Credit: Comedy Central In season 2, episode 5 ("Hashtag FOMO") Abbi turns into Val after downing many drinks and sings at the Prohibition-era speakeasy on the Lower East Side, the Back Room. Ilana is amazed. We all are. They check out art in the East Village Photo Credit: Comedy Central In season 1, episode 6, Ilana and Abbi check out a friend's improv show at KGB Bar in the East Village. How many times have you gone to a dive or hole-in-the-wall for a friend? (Countless times?) They appreciate nature Photo Credit: Comedy Central In an attempt to disconnect from "The Matrix" of technology and constant connectivity, Ilana and Abbi head out on rollerblades for a relaxing ride through Prospect Park in season 2, episode 6. But a hole in the ground gets in the way. By Georgia Kral Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Comments We're revamping our Comments section. Learn more and share your input.
