Dog lovers from all over came to NYC to watch the 148th Westminster Dog Show.
Presented by Purina Pro Plan, the country’s most prestigious dog show came to a close on May 14 after spending the weekend at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens. The show was dedicated to David A. Helming, Westminster’s Show Chairman, Club Secretary, and Friend, who passed away last year.
Early in the weekend, groups of athletic canines took on different activities. In a tremendous display of athleticism, the dock diving dogs were flying through the air and diving into the water after their favorite toy, while others took on the agility course.
On Monday, the dogs were pampered and primed with finesse in preparation for Best in Show, which took place on May 14. Dogs were represented by all 50 states and Japan, Spain and Canada.
This year, the coveted Best in Show title went to Sage, officially known as GCHG CH Surrey Sage, a miniature poodle from Houston, Texas handled by Kaz Hosaka and owned by Cathy Gauche. The Reserve Best in Show went to Mercedes, known professionally as GCHG CH Kaleef’s Mercedes, a German Shephard.
