Social clubs have always promised the privilege of unique experiences.

But these days you don’t have to have a condo on Billionaire’s Row to get in. There are clubs for golfers, artist-types, even dog lovers. What they all have in common is a promise of privileged access.

“People like being part of something that offers some exclusivity,” said Michael Herklots, vice president of retail and brand development at Nat Sherman, which offers a membership to a private social club at its town house on East 42nd Street off Fifth Avenue.
