Police have booked the boyfriend of a pregnant woman found dead outside a Red Hook Brooklyn housing project with her murder, police announced Friday.
The victim, Tatiana Walton, 27, of 11 Lorraine Street in the Red Hook Houses, was found dumped in the street outside of her home early Wednesday morning. A black, 2016 Honda was seen leaving the scene shortly after leaving her lifeless body on Lorraine Street.
Walton was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian Methodist Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police say. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s office now reveals that Medical Examiners office found the cause of death was asphyxiation due to neck compression.
Her alleged boyfriend identified as Kelvin Philp, 25, of Boxwood Drive in Shirley, Long Island, is being charged by police with murder in the second degree, officials revealed.
According to published reports, Philp dropped his 2-year-old son that he had with Walton at 34-45 84th Street in Jackson Heights, Queens nearly an hour after he dumped the body . It was unclear who found the toddler, but police officials report that “the child is safe.”
A spokesman for the Queens District Attorney’s office say they have no record of charges of child abandonment and endangerment at this time. Police officials also would not confirm or deny whether charges would be filed in that matter.
Indictment documents obtained by AM New York indicate that surveilance video both at 11 Lorraine Street and on the street, show Philp entering 11 Lorraine and then leaving and also dragging the lifeless body of the woman out of his car and onto the street. Video also showed Philp leaving the child in Jackson Heights and then driving back to Long Island.
Philp was Arraigned and remanded, according to the Brooklyn DA’s office.
