The death of a Queens nurse who was badly beaten by a patient at Brookdale Hospital six years ago has officially been ruled a homicide.

According to police, at 4:25 p.m. on Feb. 7, 2014, officers responded to a 911 call regarding an assault at Brookdale Hospital. Upon their arrival, officers found 40-year-old Kwincii Jones being detained by hospital staff.

Reports say that the victim, 70-year-old Evelyn Lynch, who was a nurse at Brookdale Hospital, was removing a catheter from Jones’ body when he knocked her to the floor and beat her to unconsciousness.

Jones was taken into custody shortly afterward and was later charged with attempted murder and assault. Lynch was admitted to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition.

Lynch ultimately died as a result of her injuries on Nov. 10, 2019. On March 24, the NYPD announced that the incident is now being investigated as a homicide.
