An allegedly foolish vandal stole a cherry picker to tag the Grand Army Plaza arch in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon and wound up in handcuffs, police reported.
The incident occurred at noon on Sunday, when a 36-year-old man got hold of the crane and allegedly used it to spray paint “Bird God” onto the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch. It was unclear how the man gained access to the crane, according to an official familiar with the incident.
It was also unclear what the meaning was behind the tag, an NYPD official said, adding that she hoped it didn’t have any anti-Semitic meaning in light of a recent wave of anti-Semitic attacks and incidents in the city.
The man got stuck in the crane and was retrieved by police before being taken into custody. His identity was not released, pending the ongoing investigation.
