Murder in Brooklyn: Man shot dead at event space in early-morning incident

Detectives in Brooklyn are looking for the killer who shot a 31-year-old man dead at an event space early on Saturday morning.

Law enforcement sources said the shooting happened at about 3:25 a.m. on July 29 inside 1890 Eastern Pkwy. in Ocean Hill.

Sources familiar with the investigation said the shooting appeared to stem from a dispute that broke out at the event space. The reasons for the dispute were not immediately known.

Officers from the 73rd Precinct, in responding to a 911 call about the incident, found the 31-year-old male victim with a bullet wound to his torso.

EMS rushed him to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have withheld his identity, pending family notification.

So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said. Sources familiar with the case did not have a description of the shooter.

Shootings have dropped significantly in the 73rd Precinct this year; according to the most recent CompStat report, year-to-date through July 23, the command reported 23 shootings and 24 victims, down from 40 shootings and 52 victims reported at the same time last year. 

The murder rate had also plunged from 13 last year to just 3 this year — a 76.9% decrease.
