NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn is installing a new ventilation system that will create better air circulation during the COVID-19 crisis.
NYU Langone, located on Second Avenue between 54th Street an 56th Street in Sunset Park, currently has about 200 COVID-19 positive patients in their 450-bed facility, some of whom have expanded into the adjoining nursing home facility across from the main campus.
Workers installing the huge ventilation system on Wednesday said the equipment would help to restrain the spread of COVID-19 through negative pressure that helps control airborne contaminants and maintain a safe environment for both patients and health care workers.
The hospital issued a statement regarding the new ventilation system that said:
“As the hospital continues to expand areas of care for COVID-19 patients, these ventilation systems—which include HEPA filtration and negative pressure airflow—allow for safe, enhanced air quality for patients and staff in the Emergency Department.”
NYU provides a myriad of medical services and is a level 1 trauma center, treating 1,200 people a year alone.
