Harlem man shot dead blocks away from home: NYPD

A Harlem man was shot dead within walking distance of his home on Saturday morning, police reported.

James Johnson, 35, of West 123rd Street took a fatal bullet to his neck in front of an apartment building at 146 West 124th St. at about 12:36 a.m. on July 23.

Officers from the 28th Precinct, in responding to a 911 call about the shooting, found Johnson unconscious and unresponsive.

Responding EMS units pronounced the victim dead.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police believe Johnson was involved in a dispute with another individual moments before he was shot.

So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said.
