6th Precinct remembers its fallen heroes of 9/11

story-2003-12-23_z

On the morning of Dec. 10, the Sixth Precinct held a memorial ceremony and plaque dedication at the W. 10th St. stationhouse for Police Officer James Leahy and Det. Claude “Danny” Richards. Leahy, a Sixth Precinct patrol officer, and Richards, a member of the Bomb Squad — which is based in the precinct — who lived in the West Village Houses, both died on 9/11 responding to the World Trade Center attack. Photos, counterclockwise from top, Jeanette Leahy, Officer Leahy’s mother, and Officer Leahy’s sons, John Leahy, 9, and Danny Leahy, 16, looked at the brass plaque of Leahy outside the precinct; Police Commissioner Ray Kelly spoke at the ceremony; officers carried the plaques into the vestibule to be hung beside those of the precinct’s other fallen officers; James Richards laid a rose by his brother’s plaque.
