More than 400 Bernard Baruch Houses residents attended the public housing complex’s annual Family Day last Saturday on the sprawling Baruch grounds, just south of Houston St. by the F.D.R. Drive. In the photo at left, state Senator Daniel Squadron, left, talked with a Baruch tenant and Roberto Napoleon, president of the Baruch Tenants Association for the past 35 years, center. Baruch’s manager, Anita Lal, in photo at right, looked good in a lime-green sari. This year’s Family Day honorees included the Parish Council of Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Pitt St.; the late Ruth Winds, former T.A. president at the nearby Vladeck Houses.; and Bernice McCallum, Masaryk Towers board of directors president. Also attending Family Day were Borough President Scott Stringer, City Councilmember Rosie Mendez and Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh. Stringer announced that he has committed $400,000 for security cameras to be installed at Baruch. Mendez later said that amount would only fund cameras for two of Baruch’s buildings, and that it would cost $4 million total for cameras for all 17 buildings.
