On Sun., Dec. 31, at about 3 p.m., the U.S. death count in Iraq reached 3,000. The next day, New Year’s Day, Grandmothers Against the War organized a vigil to mark the grim milestone. About 75 people lined Fifth Ave. in front of Rockefeller Center, many holding candles and signs, as the names of the slain soldiers from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut were read. Above, Bracha N. Bomze listened as the names were read.
