A 17-year-old bicyclist was hit and killed by a tow truck on Staten Island Tuesday, police said.

Alex Cordero was riding his bike west on Castleton Avenue just after noon when he collided with the truck as it traveled south on Clove Road, according to police.

He was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center in cardiac arrest, but was pronounced dead upon arrival, police and fire officials said.

The 38-year-old driver of the truck remained at the scene, police said. No charges were filed as of Tuesday evening.

New York City has been grappling with a spike in fatal crashes involving bicyclists this year. Cordero’s death is the 16th cyclist fatality since January — six more than the total for 2018, according to transportation advocates.
