BoltBus bursts into flames carrying passengers from New York to Boston; no injuries

A BoltBus headed to Boston from New York burst into flames Monday while on the Massachusetts Turnpike, a spokeswoman said.

The bus was carrying 47 people who were all evacuated and unharmed, the spokeswoman said.

The bus was traveling east when the driver noticed smoke at about 5 p.m. A relief bus was sent to bring the customers, who were able to get their belongings, through to Boston. The passengers were evacuated before the flames caught, she said.

The smoke plume reached high into the air as authorities blocked traffic on the busy highway.

The exact cause of the fire was under investigation, she said.
