As the first major snowfall of the year drifted over the Big Apple on Tuesday, New Yorkers young and old flocked to Central Park to throw snowballs, race sleds, and simply stroll through the freshly laid blanket.
For many Manhattanites, it had been a long time since they had seen the green of Central Park concealed by snow this deep, and they were not going to waste the opportunity to enjoy it.
“Any day spending time with my son is special, but especially with what’s happening with the climate today, it’s of even more value to us — so we take advantage of it. It’s maybe the last one we’ll have in the city for another year or two,” Zan Turvey said as he built a snowman with his son Charlie.
Although schools moved to remote learning — though there were plenty of technical hiccups — that did not stop children from playing hooky in order to enjoy the white stuff along with their parents.
“I love snow so much. I was planning on working today but since the babysitter is not coming in today I am still working, but now I am on break,” Colleen Rybakoff said.
