After 13 months of temporary closure, Central Park’s iconic Tavern on the Green is officially reopening at the end of April.

Located within Central Park at 67th Street and Central Park West, Tavern on the Green will reopen to the public on Thursday, April 29. The indoor dining rooms and outdoor spaces will open at 50% capacity.

“To say that we are excited to open our doors again is an understatement,” said Jim Caiola, Co-Owner of Tavern on the Green. “Tavern is more than just a restaurant, it is a place for New Yorkers to unwind, relax in the heart of Central Park, and feel some kind of normalcy again. The past year has tested our industry, and we have come back more resilient and innovative than ever. It has been powerful to see how restaurants have adapted and we so look forward to bringing back such a special offering, whether our guests are coming in for dinner in the iconic Central Park Room, or grabbing a cheese plate and cocktails to enjoy in the park.”

Tavern on the Green’s outdoor spaces includes its Main Courtyard, located across from Central Park’s Sheep’s Meadow, the Beer Garden, found in front of the restaurant, and the South Terrace. Chef Bill Peet is returning as the restaurant’s executive chef and will debut a new menu for the spring season, which will include beloved classics Tavern Burger and the restaurant’s famous Birthday Cake, along with new springtime specials like Grilled Lobster and Spring Pea Risotto, Caramelized Rack of Lamb, and Cauliflower Steaks.

Tavern on the Green is also creating a to-go window on the south side of the restaurant’s Main Courtyard for park goers to buy food and enjoy in their own space or at the park. The to-go menu will feature fresh selections from Veggie Frittata, a Jumbo Shrimp and Guacamole Wrap, a Cheese and Charcuterie Plate perfect for park snacking, and a full drink menu including wine, beer, and cocktails to-go. Guests can order to-go online from the park and will receive a text alert when their order is ready for contact-free pick up.

The restaurant will be implementing COVID-19 safety regulations, including enforcing social distancing and mask wearing, suspending bar service and encouraging diners to wait in the park while they wait for their table or to-go order and texting them when available.

The eatery will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for lunch, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. dinner, bar/lounge menu available in between lunch & dinner) on Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday (brunch 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., dinner 5 p.m. to close, bar/lounge between lunch and dinner). The to-go window will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Starting April 6, Tavern on the Green will start to accept reservations at tavernonthegreen.com or by phone at 212-877-TOTG (8684). The restaurant will accept walk-ins, but it is highly encouraged to make a reservation.
