One man was killed and another was seriously injured during a Chelsea shooting late on Tuesday night, police reported.

Late night diners at the nearby Chelsea Gotham Pizzeria were left in disbelief on March 8 after an unidentified gunman opened fire on the two victims at the southwest corner of West 19th Street and 9th Avenue, across from the Fulton Houses, at about 10:01 p.m. on March 8.

According to a source close to the investigation, the two men left a nearby deli and exchanged words with the shooter just prior to the shooting.

EMS rushed both victims to Bellevue Hospital, where the 31-year-old man died a short time later. Police have withheld his identity, pending family notification.

The 27-year-old man remains at Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

Police and detectives remained on the cordoned-off scene for several hours investigating the shooting. The gunman remains at large.
