Child, 7, shot near courtyard of Bronx NYCHA complex, NYPD says

A 7-year-old boy was shot near the courtyard of a New York City Housing Authority complex in the Bronx on Wednesday, police said.

The boy, who was not the intended target, was walking with his grandmother near the Mill Brook Houses, at East 137th Street and St. Ann’s Avenue in Mott Haven, around 12:40 p.m. when the gunman opened fire nearby, according to cops.

He was grazed in the right leg by a bullet and taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in stable condition, police said.

The gunman ran east on 137th Street to Cypress Avenue and into the 6 train subway station, according to cops. Investigators believe surveillance video captured the suspect fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting.

No arrests have been made, as of Thursday afternoon, police said.

There were two people standing outside of where the shooting took place. They were not injured and cops were still investigating whether they had any involvement with the gunman, police said.
