St. John’s Lutheran Church is holding a weeklong celebration with an All-Are-Welcome Center to commemorate Pride Week 2012 at the church, at 81 Christopher St.
The celebration will culminate on Pride Sunday June 24 after the parade with a 6 p.m. Jazz Mass and a Barbecue.
“We’re reviving the AIDS Vigil Walk on Friday [June 22] beginning at 7 p.m. at the church and walking down Christopher St. to the Hudson River Park and north to the AIDS Memorial near 12th St.,” said Reverend Mark Erson, St. John’s pastor.
On Thurs., June 21, St. John’s will have an open mic at 7 p.m., “for poets, singers, readers and anyone who wants to be heard,” Erson said.
The church, on Christopher St. since 1858, is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a national body of Lutheran congregations that voted in 2009 to fully include lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning people into the church as laypeople and clergy.
