Citywide tenants meeting

On Wed., Aug. 15, at 7 p.m., UNYTE will hold a citywide tenants organizing meeting at the Angel Orensanz Foundation, at 172 Norfolk St. (one block east of Essex St./Avenue A, just south of E. Houston St.), basement level.

Topics for discussion and organizing will include rent regulation, affordable housing, tenant protections, displacement, harassment, tenant law, government accountability, “the failure of city agencies to uphold the law” and “the upscale overdevelopment of our city.”

UNYTE is a citywide tenants’ empowerment group formed in response to the current conditions facing renters. A democratic, grassroots organization, it is open to all renters in New York.

Show them the money

A free seminar to help small businesses, start-ups and entrepreneurs identify financing sources will be held Thurs., Aug. 16, at Amalgamated Bank’s branch at 301 E. 23rd St. at Third Ave. The seminar, hosted by the 23rd St. Association and Amalgamated, is titled “Capital: How and Where to Get It for Your Business.”

The seminar will be presented by Hector Fernandez, the bank’s vice president and small business relationship manager, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will first be a networking session, followed by the financing presentation.
