An item in the Sept. 18-24 Downtown Express, “Incumbents win in leader races,” was premature in stating the outcome of one of those races. Based on the preliminary results, it was too close to call the district leader race between incumbent John Quinn and challenger David Diaz. The Board of Elections’ unofficial results showed Quinn leading by 53 votes, 1,285 to 1,232.
The Board of Elections will certify official results from the Sept. 15 election on Thursday, but Diaz said Wednesday that he is conceding the race rather than challenging the results or asking for a recount.
