On behalf of the Alliance for Downtown New York, I would like to thank Mayor Bloomberg, Governor Cuomo, MTA Chairman and CEO Jay Walder, Port Authority Executive Director Chris Ward, Battery Park City Authority President and CEO Gayle Horwitz, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, New York State Senator Daniel Squadron, and New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Council Member Margaret Chin for their extraordinary leadership in helping Lower Manhattan weather Hurricane Irene.
Diligent planning, timely instructions and close cooperation across many levels of government and public and private agencies kept the evacuation process orderly and Lower Manhattan’s residents, workers and visitors safe.
We have seen once again how New Yorkers can pull together for the public good in times of crisis.
