Housing activists and tenants from Haven Plaza, a 371-unit affordable housing development on Avenue C between 11th and 13th Sts. developed by the Catholic Archdiocese of New York, handed out 1,000 fliers to parishioners and visitors going into St. Patrick’s Cathedral before Cardinal Egan’s Mass last Sunday. Haven Plaza is about to get hit with a 21.5 percent rent hike. A third of the units in Haven Plaza are in the Section 8 program, and won’t feel the effects of the rent increase.
