The Carmine St. Block Association presented proceeds from its annual Meet the Chefs events to local schools at a ceremony on April 7 at the Maison Francaise on the Washington Mews. Above, David Gruber, head of CaSBA, right, presented a check for $6,000 to P.S. 41 P.T.A. co-presidents, Jill Tapia, second from left, and Mindy Garelick, third from left, as Assemblymember Deborah Glick joined in the presentation. CaSBA also gave $8,000 to Our Lady of Pompeii School, $2,500 to the Caring Community, $2,500 to the Downing Pre-School Co-operative, $400 to the Greenwich Village Block Associations, $350 to the Goldman Memorial Band and $350 to the Washington Sq. Music Festival. “We try to spread it around,” Gruber said of the group’s donations. “We keep enough to run the event.” The annual Meet the Chefs food extravaganza in September showcases the best of the South Village’s restaurants.
