Receipt goes viral after diners write ‘LOL’ instead of tip

A waitress’ photo of a receipt with “LOL” written in place of a tip is making the rounds on social media.

Jessica Jones, a server at D’Jais Bar & Grill on the Jersey Shore, says she was stiffed on a bill of more than $110 after the patrons claimed they waited more than an hour for food, the Asbury Park Press reports.

“Last night, I was stunned by this receipt that was left for me by a party of eight people. I would have preferred a “$0” tip than a “LOL” tip,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
Though she admits the they did wait an hour for their food, Jones says she made sure to keep their drinks filled and provided them with proper notice of the delay.

She calls the patrons’ actions “cruel,” adding that she and her fellow servers make only $2.50 an hour and rely heavily on tips to pay their bills.

So far, the post has been shared several thousand times, with many commenters supporting Jones.

Even Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty weighed in, sharing Jones’ post on his Facebook page.

“If you visit Belmar please treat the hardworking men and women in our service industry with the same respect you would expect at your job. This is ridiculous,” he writes.
