Charlton muggers
Police arrested one of four suspects charged with mugging a woman as she was walking on the north side of Charlton St. between Sixth Ave. and Varick St. on Saturday evening, June 11. The suspects punched the victim, 32, in the head around 7:15 p.m. grabbed her cellphone and fled. Police arrested Dinastee Parker, 20, who was identified by the victim. His accomplices, were not apprehended.
Sex abuse arrest
A man charged with molesting a woman, 23, as she was walking along Fulton St. at Cliff St. around 2:45 a.m. Wed., June 8, was arrested two days later, police said.
Salvatore Ingrassia, 35, of Ronkonkoma, L. I. grabbed the victim’s buttocks and fled down Gold St., police said. He was charged with sexual abuse.
Porn and pot
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. announced on Tuesday the arrest last week of 26 defendants in Manhattan who traded child pornography on the internet.
One defendant, Steven Roman was arrested Mon., June 6 in a 6 a.m. raid on his Baruch Houses apartment. Police discovered nude pictures and videos of children on the suspect’s computer, police said. The suspect, 30, who works as a children’s shoe salesman, also had a bag of marijuana in his Baruch Dr. apartment, police said. He was charged with promoting sexual performance of a child and possession of a controlled substance.
The arrests came after a five-month investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney’s cybercrime and identity theft bureau together with U.S. Homeland Security Investigation’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Child Exploitation Group. The investigation is continuing.
Cold rape case
Police arrested Lerio Guerrero, 32, of Staten Island, on Fri. June 10, and charged him with the Nov. 8, 1998 rape of a woman in her building at Orchard and Rivington Sts.
The arrest was made even though the statute of limitations ran out on the 13-year-old crime because a grand jury had indicted a “John Doe” under a DNA profile in 2005. The DNA had been taken from a rape kit obtained at the time of the crime and from the suspect’s blood which stained the victim’s coat after he cut himself on broken glass.
Guerrero was arrested last month in Brooklyn near the scene of a sex assault. A sample of his DNA was taken from a discarded cigarette at that time. The DNA matched the “John Doe” DNA in the 2005 indictment, according to the office of the Manhattan District Attorney.
Ferry terminal theft
Police arrested Christopher Bancroft, 56, shortly after 6:30 a.m. Fri., June 10, and charged him with larceny for stealing a cellphone from a victim who was sitting on a bench in the Staten Island Ferry Terminal in Manhattan. The suspect grabbed the phone when it fell on the floor and detached it from the headphones the victim was wearing. Bancroft was arrested before he could flee from the terminal, police said.
Missing person
Stanley Thompson, 52, missing from his home at 640 Water St. in the Vladeck Houses, was last seen leaving the mental health clinic at 344 W. 36th St. around noon Thurs., June 9. Soho assault
Police arrested Joel Griffith, 27, shortly after 11 p.m. Sat., June 4 and charged him with felony assault for beating a victim, 45, whom he had accosted walking on Prince St. near Greene St. Griffith, with a chain wrapped around his fist, attacked the victim without provocation, police said.
Wallets stolen
A Queens man, 31, discovered that his wallet was missing around 7 p.m. Thurs., June 9, as he was walking on Reade St. between Broadway and Church St., police said. He learned later that unauthorized charges of more than $200 had been made at a Duane Reade and Staples on his credit card and a $174 Dunkin Donuts charge had been made on his bankcard. The thief also withdrew $25 in cash at an ATM from the victim’s bank account.
A Brooklyn woman shopping at Victoria’s Secret, 565 Broadway at Prince St. discovered her wallet was gone at 5:30 p.m. The victim learned later that an attempt to use one of her credit cards at the same store failed when the store declined to accept the card.
A man visiting from France told police that he discovered his shoulder bag open and his wallet gone around 8 p.m. Fri., June 10, when he was paying for purchases at Abercrombie & Fitch, 199 Water St. The victim told police that he had been bumped several times in the store.
Forgot her bag
A woman, 31, visiting from the Cayman Islands forgot to pick up her bag from the counter at Lady Foot Locker, 523 Broadway at Spring St. after shopping there around 6 p.m. Sun., June 12. She returned a short time later but the bag was gone. She learned later that an unauthorized charge of $600 had been made on one of her credit cards at a store across the street.
